Michelle Kogan is an artist, illustrator, instructor, and writer. She grew up on Chicago's South Side, in a small house, and acquired a patch of earth for growing flowers. If there was a critter around her stomping grounds she made note of it. When she was a bit older she made regular trips to all the museums. She studied first at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, receiving a BFA, and went on to receive an MFA in painting from Northern Illinois University. Her desire to draw figures has been on-going, and figures always seemed to be asking her to tell their story. Eventually these interests, figures, flora and fauna all make their way into her art.

Michelle teaches art, and in the summers spends a good amount of time painting plein air in gardens and nature venues in the Chicago area, including the Chicago Botanic Garden, Lurie Garden in Millennium Park, the Lincoln Park Conservatory, and her own backyard. You can also find her creating art and writing for children's picture books, poring over books in her studio, and composing poetry and sketching while she's on a walk.

Send Michelle an email for illustration work, children's picture book illustration, commissioning or purchasing a painting, taking a class or workshop, or questions about her art. Thanks for taking a look, come back often she's always adding new art and writing!
