Figure and Nature Drawing and Painting Online
10 Week Class

Practice drawing techniques via lectures, warm-up drawings, and longer finished poses. Techniques may include: gesture and organizational line, contour line, shape-plane-volume-modeling, value, foreshortening, and anatomical studies. We will work from a clothed model, and have critiques, to provide a supportive class response. Choose to work in drawing and/or painting mediums.

Watercolors: Materials, Composition, and Technique In Person

Create both vibrant and subdued paintings with strong compositions using watercolor tubes, and watercolor pencils. Instruction includes demos on watercolor techniques- applying watercolor washes, painting wet in wet, and painting without a sketch. Learn about staining and lightfast colors. The instructor will provide a variety of still-lifes, and these will also be available online. We will have individual and group critiques to receive supportive responses from classmates.

Pen & Ink & Watercolor In Person

Poetry & Art Workshop In Person

We‘ll combine poetry and art while exploring different poetry forms. In the first session, we’ll look at haiga which combines art and haiku, cherita that are a more narrative slightly longer form of haikus, and ekphrastic poetry which are poems inspired by works of art. The second session will include some of the following poetry forms: acrostic, limerick, shape, list, golden shovel, nonet, and Zeno.

Plein Air Painting In Person & On Location
10 Week Session

Learn to observe color and capture changing light along the city's lakefront and in its parks. Intended for those with no outdoor painting experience, this course will cover the basics of equipment, materials, subject selection, and techniques for painting outdoors in acrylics, oils, or watercolor. Observe and apply color to render forms in natural light settings working with a variety of subjects–landscape, cityscape, figure in landscape, portraiture, and still life. Students will be required to provide their own supplies, including a collapsible easel, which will be discussed in the first class meeting. Basic drawing experience is helpful.
